The Many Faces of Trauma: A Psychodynamic Approach to Understanding and Treating Victims of Trauma

**Please note this is the last of a four part series**

Traumatic experiences change the structure of the personality so that the core-self, emotions, basic physiological processes and cognitive processes are altered and compromised. Trauma causes multiple types of distortions in each of these areas, such as: emotional flooding and/or numbing, cognitive misperceptions, dsregulation of emotions and physiological processes.

This seminar will examine techniques that can be used to address the different areas that have been effected by trauma, such as: breathing/ mindfulness, emotional regulation, reflecting on experiential awareness of inner states.

The seminar will also study importance of creating a safe environment to reconnect and process traumatic memories. The course provides a safe holding environment for therapists to process their secondary traumas that are activated in the countertransference reactions to patients traumas.
